Do not go gentle
into that good night
Old age should burn and
rave at close of day
Rage, rage against
the dying of the light.

— The Great Artist Rec

As everyone—especially Nawal—well knows, I have difficulties reading fanfiction because of my oversized inferiority complex. I imagine that if I were an artist, it’d be the same way with fanart.

But—I am not an artist and therefore, fanart has done the complete opposite to me. It fascinates and inspires me and leaves me in complete awe.

A long time ago, I made stalking artists practically an art in itself (and sometimes, artists stalked me, which was always just bizarre and incomprehensible). This has been done mostly over LJ and now, many of those artists have moved onto tumblr.

The Artist Rec post
Hwei - I don’t actually understand how Hwei functions because she is a fantastic artist and a terrific writer and somehow, her actual occupation does not seem to be either. When I first encountered Hwei, I was terrified and cowered before her enormous talent. Five years later, I am still cowering. I am convinced that gifs are tributes to her art, because they never seem to stay in place, and her talent at drawing hair can launch a thousand ships. My current obsession is to get Hwei to draw Squalo, Zura, Hanbei, and Akechi in a hair salon. While cowering.

Shiro - She is forever the Oshi-jello to my Atobe-cake. In our younger days (she’s forever an old woman), we may or may not have been the ones responsible for breaking the Bleach fandom through AiGin. Her art is very soft, and I do miss it since she has concentrated a lot on cosplay (which she also does a spectacular job of—see: Squalo).

Lawny - Once, I accidentally admitted to Lawny that I was terrified of her… to her. It was honestly one of the most embarrassing moments of my life (especially when Xine was like “Uh, Tracy, Lawny IS —-!”). Lawny’s lines are always soft, and her art always remind me of grim fairtales. I never through guro was cute until I began to follow her work.

Sou - Sou and I are forever unable to hold a real conversation. I don’t actually know why she talks to me, or how she is able to deliver oxygen to her tissues, because our entire relationship is based off of how many times she cries blood. Her art remind of classic fairytales, and even her doodles are ridiculously elaborate. No seriously dude, those are not doodles. You don’t know the meaning of doodle.

Lei - Lei’s art closely resembles Kaori Yuki’s works, imo, and is always haunting and beautiful. I love especially love her inking and how she draws eyes, and I am so happy that she has a tumblr now so I can stalk her forever. Also she is so nice wtf how are you real

Nisa - Nisa is forever out to break our brains, and does a good job of it. I’m not sure where she is now (DID YOU GET THE JOB BB? DID YOU MOVE?). Nisa’s art is very clean, and, imo, so well suited for fashion and .. and everything.

Jen (artblog)- Jen, I don’t care how mature you’ve become—in my head, you will forever be the Brit who accidentally punched herself while getting out of bed. Anyway, Jen is a fantastic painter, who specializes in marine art. She also does plenty of comic fanarts (especially her namesake), although I haven’t seen them in a while.

Amei - Amei is a fellow bio PHD student and I adore her deeply for that. As some one who well knows the rigors of academic slavery, Amei is highly efficient at turning out art. Her art is also highly dynamic, and her line art is to die for.

Wrat - LOL I DON’T KNOW WRAT AT ALL but look at what she can do sob sob /grovels
